THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

‘With my soul I have desired You in the night, Yes, by my spirit within me I will seek You early.’ Isaiah 26:9 NKJV

To find you have a desire for God is wonderful. Jesus said:

“For no one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me.”  John 6:44 NLT

The fact that there is a desire for God, that you are reading this Thought, and have attended or listened online to church at the weekend, is a sign that the Father is drawing you. The fact that there is an interest in finding God is a miracle; one we often don’t think about and take for granted.

Once we were lost in our sins, and we didn’t care about the things of God. We knew we were doing wrong in our lives, but we were so far away from God that it didn’t matter to us.

But now our souls desire Him. We long for Him in the night in the darkness when we cannot see Him or feel anything. That is just a miracle! He has changed us so much that the longing to know and find Him doesn’t diminish with the years or because everything is familiar to us. Instead, it becomes stronger.  Not only do we desire Him in the night, but as this verse suggests, we seek Him early in the morning too.

If our God is prompting us to seek Him in the night and early morning, then surely there must be something to be found. He wouldn’t encourage us to seek to tease us, but because He has something delightful for His children to receive.

When you feel the stirrings of desire in your soul, use them to seek after God. Let there come an anticipation, a hunger that needs to be satisfied, and you will not be disappointed. For the Spirit of the Lord has placed the very desire in your heart. Blessed be His Name.
