Would your choices in life be different if you knew a blessing was guaranteed?
As a young person, I attended a youth weekend. On the first night, I received a glorious, powerful yet quiet baptism in the Holy Spirit. The following morning at the youth meeting, we were encouraged to stand up and pray publicly in the service. We were told that blessing followed obedience. I had never prayed publicly before and nervously but obediently rose to my feet. I wanted more of what I had found the night before. That morning, I received ministry through the laying on of hands, and indeed I was blessed again.
It was a good lesson to learn, one I have applied throughout all my days as I’ve followed Christ. Obedience brings blessing. Obedience guarantees blessing! It’s made my ear keen to hear His voice no matter what He requires of me. The greater the sacrifice, the bigger the blessing.
We discover that the blessings we receive flow out to others. An obedient mother brings blessing to her children, whilst an obedient child can bring blessing to a family, and an obedient minister brings blessing to their congregation.
Christ’s obedience brought blessing to the world. If Christ had not humbled Himself and been led as a sheep to the slaughter and died at Calvary, then there would be no guarantee of the blessing of salvation.
“Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered; and being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him.” Hebrews 5:8-9 KJV
He secured phenomenal blessing by His perfect obedience, even to His death on the Cross. And from the Cross, the river of Life has flowed to every continent and nation. Billions have found faith through His obedience.
“After this I beheld, and, lo, a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations, and kindreds, and people, and tongues, stood before the throne, and before the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands.” Revelation 7:9 KJV
Amazing! Let’s seek to be obedient. Be keen to listen to His instruction and follow His commands carefully. Reading on, we discover something even more beautiful.
“(They) cried with a loud voice, saying, Salvation to our God which sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb.” (Verse 10)
The people blessed the Lamb. This is our ultimate obedience: to honour the One who died for us by blessing Him with the blessing we have received.
