THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

“Our resting place is anointed and flourishing, like a green forest meadow bathed in light.” Song of Songs 1:16 TPT

There is a deep place of rest that mankind constantly seeks to find. Whether it be a holiday, or change of lifestyle, or a retirement plan, it’s seeking something eternal by temporary means.

What people don’t realise is that there is only One who can give us this deep, wonderful rest no matter where we are, how we live or what stage we are at in life. And it’s free and available! We simply need to receive it. Jesus said:

“Come unto Me … I will give you rest.” Matt 11:28

It’s not wrong to want rest; it’s innate within us. Man was created on the sixth day, therefore his first full day was the Sabbath. We were created to enjoy rest.

Only this morning I was reading an article about how to sleep better. There were lots of hints like plenty of fresh air, sleeping with your bedroom window open and turning off your phone half an hour before bedtime. All great advice, but not one of these restrictions brings the deep spiritual rest we are looking for.

“Our resting place is anointed and flourishing.”

What does this mean? It means when you lie down to sleep every part of you benefits: spiritually, mentally emotionally and physically. The Holy Spirit brings an anointing which endues, restores and empowers you for your tomorrow. As we lie down to rest we receive from Him:  we are recommissioned, strengthened, invigorated, motivated, and refreshed. Every part of us benefits for we have rested in Christ. We receive new strength and enlightenment to cope with everyday decisions.

Life blossoms under His care:

“like a green forest meadow bathed in light.”

When we have found true spiritual rest the way ahead is bathed in fresh morning light. We look forward to the freshness of a new day, a new beginning with God.

This is the only way I know to find deep spiritual rest. I’ve had some fantastic holidays and stayed in some glamorous hotels. I am now retired and wake up most mornings to do my own thing and make my plans, but nothing I have ever experienced ever gives me the rest that I find in Christ. No one can stop the inner clock from ticking except Him. No one can give rest to mind, body and spirit all at the same time.

Stop searching for rest in all the wrong places and look for it in the only place you’ll find it: in Christ.
