THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

“Let salvation spring up, let righteousness grow with it.” Isaiah 45:8

When salvation springs up, righteousness begins to grow. How many testimonies have we heard over the years proving this point? Here are a few of the stories that come to mind.

“I was born again and discovered that I stopped swearing and cursing.”

“After being a bigot all my life, I received salvation and suddenly felt the Love of God for a Celtic supporter when they walked past me in the town.”

"I asked Christ into my life, and after years of alcoholism, I went home that night and poured a bottle of whisky down the sink. I never drank again.”

When salvation springs up within us it brings change: righteousness grows with it. This is an utter miracle! The power of the resurrection life causes salvation to spring up and righteousness to grow.

Many years ago, my old minister Hugh Black encouraged me to develop the ministry of evangelism that God had given. He spoke of the miracle when spiritual life begins in a soul. Over the years, I think I’ve learned to appreciate more and more the exact operation of the Spirit of God to bring a person to Christ. We read of many who try but don’t find any change. We can try in our strength, but salvation doesn't spring up unless there is a divine touch from above.

What a miracle it is when salvation happens. Overnight our desires change. Instead of wanting to do wrong, we want to do right. We surprise ourselves by discovering we want to do what is good in His sight. We know salvation has entered our hearts because we see the results.

Amazing grace has touched our lives! Once, we were blind, and now we see. Once, we loved darkness, and now we love light.

Take a few moments today to consider and appreciate what God has done, no matter how long you’ve been on the road as a Christian. You can still marvel over the truth: salvation has sprung up, and righteousness has grown within you.
