THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

‘He alone is my place of safety.’ Psalm 91:2 NIV

As a child, I had absolute trust in my parents. Nothing ever worried me because I knew I was perfectly safe. Even if the world had crumbled around me, it didn’t matter, as long as they were both with me.

As an adult, I look back and smile at my simple belief in my parents and realise how fragile that childhood world was. But it gives me some understanding of how safe we can be in God our Father.

He is our place of safety. A place we can go to when everything else is precarious. The world might be tumbling down around us, but He never changes. He is always the same strong, steady presence: our ultimate security. He is perfect stillness, strength and safety. We need never feel afraid when He is in charge.

However, we do need to learn to train ourselves to run to Him when the storm arises and stay there until it passes. If you do this, you will learn to draw strength from Him and be filled with calmness and courage. You will learn to look at life’s conflict through His eyes and recognise the hand of God at work.

He is our place of safety. There is no one like Christ. He is perfect, and wonderful in all His ways. A place of perfect rest and delight.

Turn to Him today and tell Him of all your fears. He already knows! Bring all your loved ones and place them in His care, and then let your heart rest in His love in this place of safety.

“For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty saviour. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” Zephaniah 3:17 NLT
